Welcome

Perhaps you've arrived here because much of your life is reasonably good, yet you're wondering whether there's room for something more. Not necessarily more activity or possessions, but more of what matters to you.

We think that's a question worth exploring.

We're John and Hyacinth Vanderpool. We first imagined Design A Great Life together decades ago. The idea stayed with us through the ordinary business of living, and now we're giving it a fuller expression here.

We don't have a formula for a perfect life. We do believe that thoughtful questions, useful ideas, and intentional choices can help us shape the lives we're still living, whatever our age or circumstances.

Two people. A shared idea.

Design A Great Life began as a we, and that's how we want it to grow.

We bring different experiences, interests, and ways of looking at things. Hyacinth has been the one most actively developing this project, while John has remained a willing supporter and has written extensively about personal growth and the choices we make.

Now we're bringing both voices into the conversation. You can learn a little more about us, and how this idea has traveled with us over the years.

What will you find here?

You'll find reflections, practical ideas, and occasional personal stories about the decisions and relationships that shape a life. There's no one route through the blog. Begin with whatever speaks to where you are now.

Freedom & Possibility
Noticing opportunities and questioning limits we may have taken for granted.

Purpose & Personal Growth
Continuing to learn, contribute, and grow throughout life.

Prosperity & Practical Choices
Thinking clearly about money, opportunity, and the practical decisions that support greater freedom.

Intentional Living
Paying more attention to how we spend our time and make everyday choices.

Meaningful Relationships
Exploring the connections, conversations, and responsibilities that enrich our lives.

These subjects often overlap. That's part of what makes life interesting.
